Concept

To create a response to my audio track....ambient build up moving into a fast beat. I want the cuts to work in time with this and the colour use of black, white, red, to work in time with this, building up an emotive response. Something different with slow and fast interlinking paces.

Yesterday

Did some work on project one, found my audio track and worked through all the footage taking out the pieces I wanted to begin to mix up. All of this took alot longer than I expected tho!

Remix and Remixability

by Lev Manovich

I thought it was an interesting article, the concept that all of this new information in the "computer" world is available to use, reuse, and remake into something different, similar or completley irrelevant without the question of authenticity. I like that we can build on old work to continue to develop new pieces, in the end it is all interlinking and the computer world is progressing as a whole rather as individuals. I think all aspects of design will soon start moving to this style of working, it gives their different disciplines greater strength and push forward working as a whole.

Class 3rd March

Today we got all of the Stray Cinema footage so were able to properly go through that and see what the context was about and start really coming up with some visions and ideas. Is an hour lond so alot of extracting is needed. Also took us through some tricks and skills etc in Image ready where we can add some really cool effects. So far my one idea is to use the parts of the footage accentuated by the red and make the backgrounds black and white and then begun to play with it through the idea of emotional journeys and conflicts of red. Something along those lines will see how it goes anyway!

The Data Wars

....by Josh McHugh

The last statement in this reading nicely summed up my response to this article (as endings tend to do!); ""The individual owns the data" Even if it sits in some company's server farm." To me, the internet is a huge world of information and communication there for the user to use in whatever form they please. This article is saying exactly that but also that people are beginning to forget, user claims begin to rise over the ownership of information. The basic use of them was originally put on the net for all to enjoy and gain, which seems to be incredibly contradictory to me, but then again when you get down to the "nitty gritty" you can begin to see where these companies etc. are coming from, no one likes to see their own work being reused in a way that was originally intended for or seen in their eyes.

So who is right? These wars over data could really go on forever without an answer to the question, but something that they should all keep in mind is what was the originally envision for the internet, the ability for the user to access, enjoy, add to, take from and develop. So is this war beginning to then ruin that goal? Who knows, It could be.

Class 29th Feb

Stray Cinema came today and discussed the aim ideas etc for project one. Got a sneak peek at some of the footage we have the opportunity to use and a browse through previous works and the types of projects stray cinema have produced. So now its time to find some inspiration and get moving on project one!!!
