....by Josh McHugh
The last statement in this reading nicely summed up my response to this article (as endings tend to do!); ""The individual owns the data" Even if it sits in some company's server farm." To me, the internet is a huge world of information and communication there for the user to use in whatever form they please. This article is saying exactly that but also that people are beginning to forget, user claims begin to rise over the ownership of information. The basic use of them was originally put on the net for all to enjoy and gain, which seems to be incredibly contradictory to me, but then again when you get down to the "nitty gritty" you can begin to see where these companies etc. are coming from, no one likes to see their own work being reused in a way that was originally intended for or seen in their eyes.
So who is right? These wars over data could really go on forever without an answer to the question, but something that they should all keep in mind is what was the originally envision for the internet, the ability for the user to access, enjoy, add to, take from and develop. So is this war beginning to then ruin that goal? Who knows, It could be.
